James Adelman is from New Jersey and received his BFA at the University of Massachusetts Amherst where he studied Fine Art and Accounting. He went on to attend Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan before completing his MFA at the New York Academy of Art.
James's work has been exhibited in the US and abroad in venues such as Sotheby’s, The Museum of Ice Cream, The Lodge Gallery, Mark Miller Gallery, Lyons Wier Gallery, Denise Bibro Gallery, the University of Shanghai, and Flowers Gallery. He has been the subject of two solo exhibitions at Gallery 51 and is the recipient of numerous awards, scholarships, and honors including residency funding through the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, the Posey Foundation Fellowship for Graduate Study, the Salmagundi Club President’s Award, the Junius Allen Memorial Award, the Deanne Keller Memorial Award, as well as numerous merit based academic scholarships. James is a member of the Salmagundi Club and has attended residencies including the University of Shanghai and Central Academy of Fine Arts Beijing, the Vermont Studio Center, and the Woodstock Byrdcliffe Guild where he was recently invited to return.
He lives and maintains a studio practice in Brooklyn, NY.
